Our Contemporary service offers a different perspective on modern worship. It is our goal to provide a worship experience that glorifies, and edifies God's Word through song and modern creative arts practices.
Our Traditional service follows our Lutheran roots as we offer our praises in a variety of hymns and liturgies that reflect our denomination's history and a more traditional style.
what to expecT
"We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure."
Hope Lutheran Church was started in 1976 by a group of Christians looking to serve Hampton Roads.
Our faith in Jesus is our hope, like an anchor, in a world that is often unpredictable and disheartening.
Our purpose at Hope Lutheran Church is to be a Family of Christ that is focused on growing our faith and expanding the Kingdom of God. We are dedicated to Worshiping God, Learning His Word, Serving others, and Seeking the lost.
What we believe
With the universal Christian Church, we believe in one Triune God...The Trinity is:
The Father: creator of all that exists
Jesus Christ: the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan
The Holy Spirit: who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments
The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
Our church is a Lutheran church, which means that we follow the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th Century.
These teachings can be summarized in three parts:
Grace Alone (Sola Gratia): God loves all the people of the world, even though they are sinful, rebel against Him, and do not deserve His love. He sent Jesus, His Son, to love the unlovable and save the ungodly.
Faith Alone (Sola Fide): Jesus was the substitute for all people of all time. By His suffering and death, He purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for them. Those who hear this Good News and believe it have the eternal life that it offers. God creates this faith and gives us the forgiveness we need.
Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura): The Bible is God’s inerrant and infallible Word. Through it, God shows us our desperate need for saving and reveals Jesus Christ as that Savior. It is the only place we look for what we believe - not politics, traditions, or human reason.
