For nearly 50 years, Hope Lutheran Church has been a home for families, seekers, and servants in Virginia Beach — anchored in Christ and open to all.
"Our faith in Jesus is our hope, like an anchor, in a world that is often unpredictable and disheartening."
Hope Lutheran Church was started in 1976 by a group of Christians looking to serve Hampton Roads. What began as a small gathering has grown into a vibrant community dedicated to worship, fellowship, and service.
As a member of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, we hold fast to the Bible-based teachings that have guided the Christian Church for centuries, while welcoming everyone who walks through our doors.

We are dedicated to saving and changing lives by the grace of God in Jesus through Worshiping Him, Learning His Word, Serving Others, and Seeking the Lost.
We believe in one God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — three persons, coequal and coeternal. The Father created all things, the Son became human to save us, and the Holy Spirit creates faith through God's Word.
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired, true Word of God — our standard for life, full of wisdom and guidance. Through scripture, we grow closer to God and deepen our understanding of His love.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16-17
There is hope in Jesus. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose again — conquering death and offering us hope. To be forgiven, we trust that His sacrifice was for us personally.
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." — Romans 10:9
We believe in the power of prayer — individually and together — as an expression of faith. Through prayer, we seek guidance, strength, healing, and a deeper understanding of God's will for our lives.

The purpose of this congregation, in addition to those stated in the Articles of Incorporation, is to give honor and glory to God and to be a blessing to others as God has blessed us. We will be the instruments of God in carrying out Christ’s Great Commission. We, therefore, devote ourselves to proclaiming the Word of God; growing in grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ by educating all ages through study and sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments; and witnessing to our faith in Jesus Christ to each other, the community in which we live, the nation, and the world. Furthermore, we offer service to others by acts of mercy and concern, practicing stewardship through wise management and use of God’s gifts to us, celebrating Christian fellowship with one another so that a spirit of unity and joy exists in the congregation, and giving absolution to the penitent.
This congregation holds the Bible (i.e., the books of the Hebrew scriptures known as the Old Testament and the books of the New Testament) to be the Word of God and the sole rule of faith and practice. This congregation accepts all the confessional books of the Lutheran Church contained in the Book of Concord of 1580 as a correct and sound exposition of Christian Doctrine, taken from and in full accord with the Holy Scriptures. These books are the Ecumenical Creeds (Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian), the Unaltered Augsburg Confession of 1530, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Catechisms of Martin Luther, the Smalcald Articles, and the Formula of Concord.

We are saved not by our good deeds but by His Grace alone. "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." — Romans 3:24
By His suffering and death, Jesus purchased forgiveness and eternal life for all. We are saved by grace through faith in Christ — not by our own efforts. — Ephesians 2:8-9
The Bible is God's inerrant Word. Through it, God reveals our need for saving and shows us Jesus as that Savior. It is the only standard for what we believe.

As an LCMS Lutheran church, we follow the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The three Solas are the core principles that guide our theology.
The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod is a denomination of over 6,000 congregations united in our confession of the Christian faith. We are committed to sharing the Gospel and serving communities across America and around the world.
We'd love to meet you this Sunday. Plan your visit, explore our ministries, or just reach out and say hello.
